While driving around NW of DFW looking for land that might make a grass runway I happened to notice an old, ragged wind-sock next to a farmhouse and barn. So I drove up, got out and played with the dogs until a nice elderly gent came out and asked me if I "was representing someone,....or just myself?" I told him I was lost and noticed his windsock and dogs and hoped someone was home. He turned out t be a retired Air Force Colonel (WW-2 P-51 pilot, based in Italy in support of the 15th Air Force) and we struck up a friendship. Turns out he"s also a retired farmer and I happened to get a tour of his place, which included a 1950 Massey-Ferguson Super 62 Combine that was in excellent condition. (Just in case any of you guys happend to want some old iron.) He said he started it up a couple months ago, has owned it since new. Never had thought about selling it until I mentioned it to him, and then after he thought about it, said,...why not? Wonder what it"ll bring? I told him I"d mention it. So I have.

I will look again to see if I can find it.

looked at that ebay link: what a coincidence...that one is in Krum, TX about 10 miles from the one I mentioned. Big difference in condition tho'. This old gent's super 62 is in excellent condition, stored in a shed, and really fine sheet metal and tires. Paint is faded orange,..maybe a bit chalky,...but nothing to worry about as is. Decals all look good on it, very readable. Looks ready to go to work.

Thanks for the info, and the comments....I'll tell him both. (Local county commissioner and I've made friends also, and he had nothing to say except nice things about the Colonel. Seems to be a well-respected/known resident.)
