You posted a picture for me of a choke flapper assembly a few days back that led me to ask about the choke spring, remember? The picture doesn't come up in the archive and I could REALLY use to see it again. Any chance you could post it for me one more time? Thank you! I need to see how the spring is set on there and would like to take one more look at the flapper and plate.

I don't think it makes any difference, but in Rob's picture the ears that lock the flap in are turned opposite directions. In my picture they are both turned up. Just interesting.

I believe the word "top" stamped into the choke plate confounds many and gets guys to install the plate wrong. As I remember, the stamping had me scratching my head.
Note in this picture the word "top" is on the bottom and upside down and a fella will see that and no telling what comes next.
I think some too clever guys finagle the plate until they can close the choke and "top" is on top or at least they can"t see the confounding stamping when they hold the choke closed.
"Top" is on top when you insert the choke plate into the shaft.

While I got you on the line, there was no spring on this carb when I disassembled it so I am not clear....late on a Friday....just what it does.
From the picture it appears that the spring is to snap the choke arm back against the pin in the carb body. I am assuming that this snaps the choke knob on the dash back in at the same time if I remember the prior post and might (possibly) help prevent over choking? If you have any tips for installing this spring and how tight it should be, I could use to hear them. Looks like the one in the picture is set pretty tight. Thanks!

To install the choke linkage spring, hook the round part of the spring onto the post on the carb body. Slide the choke linkage through the hole in the center of the spring and into the carb, but not fully - leave enough out so it can spin without touching the post. Now, hook the angled part of the spring on the linkage arm, then spin the linkage clockwise past the post ONCE than holding it in place push the linkage all the way into the carb body. When you let go of the linkage, the post should stop it from spinning back counter clockwise, and there should be pressure on the likage from the spring to hold the linkage against the post.

Yep, the choke return spring returns the choke to full open when the driver releases the choke knob. You load the spring by running the choke shaft through the coil with the loop end next to the carb body, place the loop on the end of the spring on the small post in the body of the carb next to the shaft, and then rotate the hook end of the spring CW until it will hook over the top of the choke shaft arm like shown in the picture. You rotate the hook end only far enough to hook over the arm. There should be plenty of tension.
Anyway, you get it right you can rotate the arm CW off the post and release then it the arm will convincingly snap back to rest on the post.

Shorty..... ...yep, the choke coiled hairspring with arms is designed to keep the choke fully OPEN during normal operation. The neat picture shows the strangler fully closed..... ..... Dell
