The contacts on the inside of the distributor cap all have a black/brown streak across the from where the rotor/electricity has passed. I had very little movement of the dist. shaft(no wobble). Spark good @ low R's-cuts out gets weak when wound up. Todays a new day.I am going to yank the card and clean it to make sure its not flooding

Pretty good plan. Maybe.

No response mentioned the carb and they were everyone about wiring.

Yet, you decide to work on the carb.

Interesting approach.

Good luck.

Looks like two problems, at least. One, bad spark/running rough and that might be two problems. Second is hard starting. You need to go through the wiring from the ground strap frame connection to the starter stud to the spark plugs inspecting, cleaning dirty or corroded connections, and repairing or replacing any cracked or damaged wires or cables. All terminals and connections including the resister and ammeter. If the spark plug wires show surface cracks where you bend the wires then replace them with copper-core wires. You may end up pulling the starter back to clean the mounting mating surfaces to give a good ground. The battery and starter cables should be larger then the cables on your 12v vehicles and as short as possible. Look to see if there is an obvious difference in size and if there isn"t then get some 6v cables; they will be sold as 6v cables and don"t settle for anything less. Dirty connections and corroded or undersized cables will heat up when you crank the engine. Turn off the key and crank the engine for 30 seconds to see what gets abnormally warm. Crank the engine with the key on to check the key switch and small wire ignition system for hot spots. Be great if nothing but the starter gets warm when you do that. Get that done and get a full charge on the battery and you are ready to look for your "running rough" problem but with a little luck that goes away also.
First thing for "rough" is to swap 3 with 4 and see if that fixes it. Lot of times, you can lay a screwdriver on a plug wire and short it to ground. You may have to remove the plug wire from the plug. When you short or remove the plug wire from a good cylinder it will run even more rough or stall and there is no change when you disable a bad cylinder.

I would check the positive ground connection to the frame. Mine was rusted pretty badly and the tractor acted like the starter was bad - no start condition. With a fully charged battery, the solenoid clicked but the starter didn't turn at all. When I cleaned up (sanded the rust off) the connections and re-connected everything, it cranked to beat the band. Doug.

You may have a bad wire from the switch to the coil. I'd hot wire it and see what happens. Go from the battery to the coil with a wire and see if it starts, if it does you have a problem with a wire

update-I put a spare sparkie in each plug wire to see whats happening. its pretty good spark until @ very low rpm's. When I wind her up it cuts to no/intermittent spark. Its a front mount 6v.
Thanks again
Denny

"pretty good spark until @ very low rpm's. When I wind her up it cuts to no/intermittent spark."
That reads like both ends of the rpm range have unsatisfactory sparkies.
Got a voltmeter? With engine off, key on, what's your voltage at the top of the coil? Bump the engine or rock the tractor until the points either open or close. Should see readings of little over six volts (battery voltage) and about 3 volts. Also check your rotor and cap for contact abuse. How are the distributor bushings?

Sounds like low current flow to tractor. Is your battery known to be good? Check the battery cables and make sure they are good. Disconnect them and wire brush and shine the connections. Then put them on nice and tight. James
