Where Does Governor Compensating Spring Go?

I have looked through parts manuals and the FO-4 and I cannot find where this spring goes. My 2N has a grand total of one spring on all the throttle system and that is the spring on the governor itself. I have to hold the throttle in position when running at high settings and I think the missing spring may be the problem. Any thoughts from the group? Anyone have a picture of where it goes?

Yep, (GASP!..E-gad, noooo!). I haven't had any problems so far because I didn't wrap all the way to the end and I made sure I wrapped in the proper direction (clockwise when looking down on the end to be inserted). No problems, no leaks, happy tractor owner! Thanks for the compliments!

If you look to the right of the blue roll of teflon tape, you'll see the throttle control linkage that works your governor. Between where the vertical linkage drops down to head towards the governor and the spark plug wire loom tube is what looks like a silver bar. That is where the spring goes that helps to compensate for the governor's pull on the throttle handle. That is what helps to hold the lever in position. Additionally, if you look at your throttle handle itself and follow it down the steering column, there should be a small spring down there that pulls the throttle lever down against the quadrant. If the nubs on your quadrant are worn down or the lever itself is worn smooth, you will still have trouble holding it in one spot. At least this will give you some idea as to where the "other" governor spring goes. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much. The picture did it. I bought a spring for it but could not figure out where it went.

The spring under the throttle quadrant is there and seems to work. Just changed the spring on the 9N my father and I are restoring. He brazed a small nail on the bottom of that throttle lever where it was worn and we replaced the spring by cutting the old spring out and winding the new spring around the shaft. Seemed to be a whole lot easier than taking the throttle shaft off the steering column. I don't think the 9N had the compensator spring on it either but I had help when we tore it down so it may be in with the nuts and boltes we removed.

Paul, your 2N should have a bracket or stand at the front end of your throttle rod bolted under two of the head bolts. Look at the end of the throttle rod and there should be two pins sticking out with ball ends. A spring goes on each of these pins. Thanks, Kelly.
