While discing with my NAA last week it shut down as if it had run out of gas. Let it cool for a while (though it did not seem 'hot'). It started again, ran for ten minutes and did it again. Mechanic friend told me to check fuel flow. Disconnected fuel line and had good flow. Removed Carb - cleaned, reassembled and reinstalled - same thing. Mechanic said to check spark. Could detect no spark at plug. Replaced plugs - no change. Replaced coil. It was now completely dead. Replaced battery, battery cables, resister. Started right up, ran for 30 minutes and shut down again. When running, it is very smooth so don't think its points. Should my next attack be at the carb, the distributer, the air cleaner or the mechanic? Just kidding, he's a good freind and is convinced its a fuel problem. Appreciate any help

One of my 8Ns drove me nuts for weeks with this same problem. It finally turned out to be a very cruddy fuel tank which I had cleaned. Even with that, crud still gets into the line.

Recently, one of my Jubilees started doing it. It does not have a sediment bowl. You can bet that is the first thing I will do!

ignition switch and coil are two prime heat related engine shut down suspects. since you have changed coil switch is a good bet.

also, just because fuel flow looks good at rest don't assume it is good after thirty minutes of running. crud has a way of closing off screens at the least opportune time.

check spark AND fuel flow at the time the trouble happens

At the time trouble occurs the starter still turns over making me think its not the switch. It just won't fire. Ive got the carb off and soaking now.

The starter will operate regardless of the position of the key switch. The key switch only controls the power to the coil unless your tractor has been rewired differently. They are notorious for failing in service — check or replace the key switch.

In a scientific survey of all past Ford 9N, 2N, 8N and NAA carb problems, 92.47% were electrical.
