I just did a minor rebuild on the carberator{Marvel Schebler. It will not start with ou a shot of ether does not matter if it has been running or not. Once started it runs fine.I did notice that the venturi is cracked. Does anyone have any ideas. Thank-you

I think your venturi is cracked:) Think about it, the venturi creates a low pressure area that draws fuel from the float bowl into the airstream. If the venturi is cracked, then there is little or no vacuum at low engine speeds like when cranking. By injecting ether into the intake you remove the requirement to have fuel from the carb get drawn up and the engine fires. Once the engine is running, there is sufficient vacuum to keep it going in spite of the crack. Do yourself a favor and replace the venturi then readjust the screws.
