I've got the door apart thinking i would replace my power lock motor on a 1996 grand cherokee. Man that thing is buried and I don't see what is holding it on. The book says remove and replace but dosen't tell you how. Do the lock mechanisms star bolts somehow hold it in place? Anyone know how to get this thing out?

I always call the dealer and talk with the service advisor, they usually are willing to help with advice.

I had to call the dealer because it was a $98.00 dealer part but had already struggled through the removal. I like to take the part in with me to make sure I'm getting the same replacement. The next one will be much easier. 2hrs to take it off and one to put it back together. I had to use a mirror to see on the back side of the door and how the clips attached to the linkage. Four different linkage rods and two types of clips. The two rear ones are a real bear to line up. An 8N starter is easier to put back together. First experience with an actuator. Old window motors were much simpler to work on.
