Has anyone had anyone on forum ever used gas additives with beneficial results?
Under advisement I tried "Chevron Techtron" to clean carburator and what a mess I got into. It cleaned the rust in gas tank so well that the loose rust plugged the two holes in the gas valve. Why is the screen in the tank open on the top? After draining tank and spraying gas around inside with a 3 gal. sprayer and letting it drain at the same time, I hope that I have problem solved. I guess that this might be a good way for someone to clean tank without removing it.

I believe that additives...all additives...are merely a way to empty your wallet. Kerosene or diesel fuel are every bit as good as and lots cheaper than MMO for all the same purposes MMO is used. If you want it red, add dye. If you want it to smell good, add perfume.

In gas.. I have used stabil ( with good results ), as well as gas-dry.. and occasionally carb cleaner addatives.. MMO as well.. have no way of gauging the carb cleaner / mmo.. but the gas dry and stabil work fine.

In my diesel engines.. I use white bottle power service...

Russ,

I use Techron in all my cars and trucks but it is to keep the fuel injectors clean. I use a bottle per vehicle once a month and I have never had a fuel injector problem since.

Only thing I use in the tractors is StaBil if the tractor will be sitting for a while between uses.

The screen inside the gas tank should NOT be open on the top. If it is how can iit keep trash out of your fuel system. If yours is open you shouls solder a piece of brass/copper screen on top so it is completely sealed off from any foreign matter getting into the fuel valve. James

Both new valves I have purchased over the last two years were open at the top right out of the box.

I never heard of Marvels Mystery oil. Would a couple ounces of 2 cycle oil per 5 gal. gas be ok?
Also, is the screen in the tank suppose to be open at the top or is this a prior owners doings?

Get to know MMO - it is an antique tractor's best friend. You can use it as a fuel system cleaner, to unstick valves, as a oil system cleaner, to unstick stuck pistons - great stuff! You can get it at Walmart or almost any decent auto parts store. Follow the directions on the bottle.

The metal screen on top of the sediment bowl/fuel shut off valve is open at the top. I think the ideology is that rust and dirt will be at the bottom of your tank, so the screen will stop it.

Good luck,
Dan

I know it is tough, but that is exactly what you want to happen. Once it is clean though, you can help is stay clean by adding samo Marvels Mystery Oil in the gas at fill up time.

Good luck,
Dan

I throw in some MMO in the tank and every once in awhile a bottle of Heet, especially if I have not been to the farm for awhile or know I will not be there for a few weeks.
