Guys..... .....I'm ok, just suffering N-Board withdrawal symptoms. My ISP (AOL) is arguing with my American Express Card payment provider. AMX won't pay AOL, seems AOL had my AMX expiring 9/03 and AMX won't honor AOL's charge. and I can't convince AMX I'm still good for the money. Right now I am logged on for 1-hour at my county libarary, and my hour is UP..... ...Dell

Hi Dell,
Since you live out in the country, why don't you check out directway. (www.directway.com) I also live a long way in the country and I have directway and am really happy with it. Also, I am going to an internet phone (www.vonage.com) that gives me long distance calls for free. In certain places...mine not being one...you can even get your old phone number. Just some ideas...Hope you get back on line soon.

Link

Look and see if there is a local dial up number you can use.
I have four numbers in three towns near me that I have local
calling in to. AND I can use itin most any other place in the US.
So when I visit my son in Iowa or daughter in Florida, I can still
logon and use my unlimited time on the net.

Pay for the year and it is $8.25 an month.
You get 100MB of space to store stuff for a web site.
They also offer 100 mail boxes - WHY I don"t know?
That is a LOT of mail boxes, not to mention all the
usernames and passwords to remember! :-)

Regards,
Larry

Hey Dell,

Figured you were out visitin the boy. Sure miss your spelin and nawlij. I gave up AOL after 5 years because of both price, speed and the crap their software puts in a system. Went with SBC high speed. It's like the difference between and Farmall A and a Ford N. Hope to see ya back real soon.

Safety & blue skies,

DJ

Dell. Yes, i'd dump AOL and call the local TV cable company to see if they offer cable internet access, for about $30-35/month, they'll give you blazing internet speed, access to a home page, and free up your phone to boot. The only thing you'll miss about AOL are the pop up windows of Brittany Spears and Paris Hilton.

You actually are able to tach up to 28.8!! Here in the Northern Neck, that would be considered fast! On a good day, I might be able to do that, but most days, it is slower! Actually, I have experienced faster service in the PI than here!

Dell DUMP AOL. As a computer geek, so I've been told, AOL is a total waste of money. I know, you've probably been used to it for years now. Trust me on this one, you might know tractors, but I know computers, ISP's and I know AOL, dump them. You will be much happier. Why do you think AOL is alway's offering people free minutes? Because they are garbage. It makes no sense to have AOL on your computer when your brand new computer already has internet explorer and an email program (Outlook Express). Respectfully yours.

Hey Dell..Get ridda AOL! AOL=Almost On Line! Worst organization in the whole country! (Well, maybe there are actually worse ones, but right now, I can't think of one. Go with a good Local ISP, if there are any left in your area! Don't get me started with my rant about the AMEX Card! Too bad we absolutely CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT CREDIT CARDS! But, WE DON'T NEED AOL!! Nuff sed!

I agree with you about AOL. I did'nt like when they first came out and I don't like them now. I thought I'd try their 9.0 version in Dec. '04. It has taken me until now (05/05) to get them off my credit card.

Ya, the b..stereds got me for about 100.00. I canceled my service in July and had a customer service rep call me and ask why and I said you don't have local number. He asked if he could send me a current CD with more numbers and I said you can send me anything you want but i don't want AOL. In Dec of that year I looked at my CC bill.(wife takes care of the billing)and I hit the roof. There was a 19.00 charge from AOL. I looked back and they had been charging me all along. I called and raised he!!. They said that when I agree to accept the current CD that continued my service. They said they could only refund 2 months. They would not even talk about the rest of the months. I said don't you think it is funny I would have account and NEVER USE IT! So AOL can suck pond water and choke on it as far as I am concerned. I used th ecd that they send in the mail to shoot skeet with or I relieve myself on them. You,,,, see I don't like them at all.

About 2 yrs ago I had to cancel my son's AOL account. They told me that it was cancelled but it could be auto-reactivated by anyone who would login w/his id for up to 6mths after cancellation. I have no idea if this is still ineffect.

Dump AOL and Dump Amex. AOL for all the right reasons to dump someone, and Amex for their own brand of stupidity and abuse. I used to be chief pilot for an AMEX subsidiary. Flew for them for almost seven years. (Got ZIP from them despite 7 years of loyal service, when they merged us with another sub.) Got a new job. Several years later I got a divorce. A couple months later, I was sending my daughter to visit her mother and, in accordance with the divorce agreement, I had to have her on a particular airline flight for her mom's weekend visitation or I'd be in violation of the agreement. I presented my AMEX card to the airline, they asked me to speak on the phone to someone at Amex who'd flagged the card. I asked what the problem was, and the AMEX agent told me that a "derogatory" remark in my credit file has caused them to instruct the airline to refuse to honor the card and keep it in their possession. I asked them what kind of derogatory remark in my credit file was causing the trouble,..."Am I late in a payment, or something?" "No." was the answer. I wasn't late. I'd never been late on a card I'd had for over 10 years. I didn't have a past due balance. IN fact my balance was $0. It was completely paid. The derogatory remark was.....that I was newly divorced. !! That's it! (Grrrr.) My kid missed the flight by now, and I got chewed on by a judge who totally missed the point. (Still got custody of my daughter tho', because it was the right thing for her, and the right thing to do!.... the judge later ruled.) Drop AOL/AMEX. I did and life is much better.

Another AOL horror story. A few years back I purchased a new computer at one of those superstores. With the purchase I got a deal of $400 off the price by accepting a 3 year contract with AOL. The store never told me that they would automatically open an account for me. So the next day my son set up the computer and opened an account. After 5 months I noticed I was getting charged twice each month. After lengthy discussions and arguments with AOL I got no satisfaction. They simply robbed be of 5 months of service fees. The b..strds.
