Would one of you fellas have the ability to put up a close-up top view of an original seat for a 2N tractor? I am looking to replace the "riding mower" seat that came on my tractor with an original and buy a padded cover for it. I have found a seat locally but I need to verify it is the right seat. Thanks guys and have a great holiday weekend! I'll be working on the 2N a little this weekend myself.

Not a very good picture, but this is a side shot of the original seat on my 2N. NOTE: the hinged bracket between it and the leaf spring is NOT original and could be an aftermarket. I was actually hoping someone might know something about it, but nothing so far. Notice how there are only 5 holes in the seat (I made a mistake earlier when i said there were 7). Besides the lack of a few holes, the only other real difference between the original and the aftermarket is the round disc in the middle of the seat was riveted to the pan at 2,4,8, and 10 o'clock. I think the holes are just open on the aftermarket.

6'er,
Give me an email. I'll try to send a pic of the seat, spring and hardware for the flip-top butt box.

Here is the seat, fits 2N, 8N, 9N. Now, you gotta tell me how someone put a riding mower seat on yours. I would love to be able to change mine out just for working, and keep the original. I just want a back on mine, it is so uncomfy at times!

Just to be 100% accurate, that seat shown in the picture is not an original, but is the new aftermarket reproduction. If you look, it has 9 holes, The originals had 7-just the ones arranged in the upside down "v" pattern. Other than that, they are just about the same. Also, I know the 8N's at least had a flip up hinge on the bottom of the seat whereas the 9N and 2N seats were rigidly bolted to the leaf spring.

Jeb, that's the kind of info I was looking to get.
I am buying a used seat and I want to make sure it is the right seat. Once it has the cover on, only I will know.....but I WILL know. Did I understand you to say that the seat was bolted directly to the spring? One bolt only or two?

Just one massive carriage bolt in the middle. The leaf spring bolts to the lift cover housing with two studs and nuts. I think the Carriage bolt is available aftermarket and is something like a 9/16 fine thread super-short carriage bolt. Definately something unusual and not at the local hardware store.

John, I installed a universal fit tractor seat on my 8N with a wrap-aroud back that works really well. It has good padding and is adjustable. Check the archives for the info I posted a few months back.

Thanks John, I am not exactly sure except there is a big bracket between the seat and the spring and one bolt holding the bracket to the spring. Can't tell if bracket is part of the mower seat or if it is a tractor part. All I know is that it isn't any more comfortable than the pan seat with cover that I am used to sitting in for hours on end and makes me feel like I could fall off backwards sometimes. Since this YO-YO (an that is the nicest thing you will hear me call him) took off the seat, I suspect he lost any brackets and hardware that goes with it. At least that was the story with the carburetor which was missing as many parts as it still had on it. The FO4 is not a great reference for this as it shows a flip back seat which I do not have. Could someone who knows look at page 103 in the FO4 and tell me which of those parts would be applicable to a 1944 2N? I know #1 and I have #5 or some version of it. Mostly concerned that I get all the mounting hardware so that when the seat arrives I won't be hunting up a lot of parts.
Thanks John, for the pic.
