Rear tire recommendation needed

I punctured my rear tire on my 53 Golden Jubilee. The treads are deeply weather checked and about 50%. The punctured tire worked itself off the rim on the inside.

So, I've decided to forego a repair and get a set of new tires for the rear. Since I've only owned my tractor for about 6 weeks I thought I'd ask for advise on brand, type, cost, etc.

I'll be using the tractor to clear land and build some access roads. I'm using a 2 bottom plow and a back blade. Terrain has many thorns, 1/2" to 1" tree stumps/stubs, and rocks (some jagged).

I've seen 8 ply tires and these seem like they would provide extra resistance to punctures. I have also seen some sort of tire 'inlay' or sleeve made of rubber to give another barrier between the inner tube and the tire...any thoughts on these?

I take it size should be 11.2x28? How about 12.4x28?

I am looking for an Ag R-1 tire. Is this correct?

Any advise would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Paull.

Tucker tire (do a google search) has very reasonable rear tires, and even more reasonable shipping....SHIPPING IS FREE EAST OF THE ROCKIES! I love the set I bought. Very thorn resistant so far, and I only bought the 6 ply.

Yep.. and ag r-1 tire is going to be tretty tough. and I believe I have those 12.4x28 on my 660.. should fit on the same rim a 11.2 came off of.

If you are worried about the thorns.. deffinately do boot it. Sometimes you can get a boot to fit.. other times you simply take the remnant of the old tube, and cut the inside out.. then slip it in the casing, and slip te new tube inside of it.

I'd buy as cheap as I could find. It's a good possibility that the tire.. ( even a cheap one ) is gonna outlast you.

My 2n has one 'vintage' rubber on it and my 8n still has one vintage rubber on it. Had both old rears when i got it and a few years ago one finaly gave out. Tough old suckers those tractor tires...

Has anyone dealt with 'Tucker tires' on ebay? They have sell new rear tractor tires, 8 ply. Prices seem reasonable.

Paul.
