No, I'm not jumping the gun. I was just thinking that as I pull stuff off to work on it, I would sandblast off the pink remainder of the "8N copycat" paint job and start putting on some lovely battleship gray. Since I am only doing small parts for now, I thought maybe I'd buy spray cans and not mess up the sprayer until I get to the body. What paint do you use on the parts that get hot? Any tips you can give me? I have NO idea how to paint a tractor, so if this is a stupid way to go about it feel free to wade in and tell me!

You might consider getting the Ferguson grey for the oldest Fergusons from Massey-Ferguson dealer in your area. You can buy it in aeresol cans for regular quarts I believe and it is correct for a 9N or 2N. Cordially, Mike-Iowa

I have no idea of the specifics but I seem to remember something about somebody being able to mix custom aerosol paint colors to match wet paint that you would otherwise spray with your gun. However, if you really are truly set on using spray paint, I think the Ferguson dark gray would be your best bet as far as availability. Most folks just clean all the parts up real good and hang them and paint a bunch at one time with the spray gun.

When you say hot.. you are meaning the manifold and the muffler. The muffler usually comes anodized or zinc/silver.. no need to paint. For the manifold, you have a couple choices of high temp paint.. usually the bbq black, and some hi temp silvers. i like the hi-temp black myself. Others simply paint it the same color, and let the paint bake to a nice patina on the hot portion.. probably how it came from the factory anyway.. everyhting blanket sprayed right on.

Your head and block won't need hi-temp paint..

That would work. I wanted to paint some parts on the engine a contrasting black anyway just to make it look better. I hate to paint over the pink...er, red....parts because it is soooo darn cute, but maybe when I get this one done I'll buy an 8N and do it up right. Didn't get half of what I wanted done today. Where does the time go?
