8N Lift question

My 52 8N will only lift up to 24" from ground level. I understand that it SHOULD lift about 34". I have replaced the cam follower pin, and the hydroulic piston with a NAA type. Any ideas why it won't lift to its full height? The fluid level is fine also.

Thanks!

Paul

pushing back the quadrant on the mounting bolts which have elongated holes in the bracket just for this purpose might do the trick.

Also check to see if the lift will raise all the way up when the little lever under the seat is in the down draft mode. If it will come all the way up it means that you didn't get the position mode adjusted correctly even though you did probably improve it by replacing the cam follower pin.

If it still won't come all the way up the linkage probably need a good adjusting.

I make a jig to use when adjusting the 8N lift. There are other instructions that tell how to adjust the 8N lift using other means and measurements of springs etc but that process just won't work on a badly worn set of linkage off a 50 plus years old machine. With a jig you have hard point to adjust to.

I would give it a try though the way we have described and see what happens.

Loosen the 4 bolts that hold the touch control quadrant to the tractor. The quadrant holes are slotted and allow you to move the quadrant forward and backward on the bolts though you may need to tap it with a hammer to break it loose. Move the quadrant one way or tother and try the lift so see if this gives you what you want. All this and more is explained in the I&T FO-4 manual, available on this site, as well as other places on/off line. Good luck. Steve 8N I69302
