Reno, SOS, what a controversial subject. Search the archives for "SOS" you'll get more than you ever wanted to know. You will need to filter out personal opinion and make your own judgment based on peoples actual experience. I have a 59 801D with SOS and I love it. It all depends on how well it has been maintained. Don't run away yet. It may be in fine condition and you may be able to bargain down due to all the bad rap the SOS gets. If it doesn't operate properly then you can research it further to try to determine if it's a costly fix or not. If it doesn't work right and you're not sure then you can run. HTH, Eric

The scoop is that unless it has been properly maintained it will almost surely need very expensive and difficult repair. Parts hard to come by, can't be readily swapped for a 4 or 8 speed. Will not bring near the dollars at resale as the manual transmission. As someone once said on the Ford Board, "don't walk away from it...run"
