My new proof meter will only work if I unscrew the meter end of the cable almost all the way out. Does that mean I need to exchange the proof meter, or maybe just trim that end of the also new cable a bit?

Try a couple rubber orings as spacers..

Hi Ramrod,

I repaired the original proof meter on my Jubilee project tractor but I had to buy a new cable. When I started running the tractor I noticed that the proof meter worked sometimes and sometimes not. I had to "tweak" both ends of the cable to get it to function properly. I actually had to take a hammer and enlarge the flattened end of the cable that goes into the back of the hydraulic pump. I had to add a washer/shim to the end that goes into the back of the proof meter. I think I had the same problem you may have.

After the adjustment/tweaking the proof meter works great and has not skipped a beat. HTH. Rick

I had a very similar problem with a Jubilee I recently bought. Replaced the (broken) proofmeter and cable, and it would only work if I unscrewed the cable from the hydraulic pump end.

The problem was that the replacement cable was fabricated incorrectly--the cable's sheath was sticking too far up into the screw-on end's housing (like they stuck the sheath in too far before they crimped it down).

So... You might wanna check out the ends of that new cable very carefully, and compare it to the original, if you still have it.

I "solved" the problem by blowing oil through the old cable, which now spins even easier then the new cable did. :)
