Clutch Adjustment Question

I recently put a clutch in my 49 8N.
To get the correct adjustment on the clutch peddle,
I had to run the adjusting bolt all the way in.

Now am I correct in assuming that when the clutch
wears a little bit I won't have any adjustment left.
Or how does this work.

BTW - Clutch works great and installation went smoothly.
Thanks to all the instruction I got from ya'll.
Took me about 2 days to change it.
It all worked just like ya'll said.

Thanks.

Check the clutch shaft. Clutch shaft holes the pins are stuck in get wallowed out you can lose more then 3/4" throw-out bearing travel. Look at the clutch shaft bushing on the right side to see how much wear since the shaft was last serviced. It is a thin bushing to start with and you can see it from the outside. Is it worn away so the shaft is wearing the tranny housing? That can"t help either because the shaft is no longer square with the clutch plate and the bearing travels at an angle.

Nope, it was just fine when we checked it.
Everything looked to be in A-OK shape.
We changed the clutch cause it was soaked in oil.
We also changed the front tranny seal.

You talking about the bushing out the side of the tranny housing? If it"s not worn then the shaft has probably had attention.

You can"t see the holes in the shaft without moving the fork to the side and removing the clevis. They are sneaky but that"s where you can lose all the adjustment.

The throw out fork and all bushings looked ok.

You lost me here.

Probably confused over the "clutch shaft." How about "clutch release shaft" B-7510-A2 not to be confused with the transmission input shaft? The fork and clevis are pinned to the clutch release shaft. The clevis and/or fork slip on that shaft then you lose throw out travel and all the clutch adjustment.
Go look at the end of the "bushing, clutch shaft" 40-7508-A and if it"s all worn away on one side then that shaft hasn"t been serviced in a long, long time and you can bet it is time to pull it out and see what shape it is in.

When I had the tractor split and the tranny input shaft out
I checked the throwout shaft (shaft with fork on it for TO bearing).
This shaft had no play or wiggle in it at all.
I inspected the bushing on the right side
and it looked fine and had no wiggle in the shaft there.
The left side had no wiggle in it but I didn't
check for a left side bushing.
With everything seeming to be tight I assumed it is fine.
I specifically was looking for wear in the right
side bushing cause I had read about it here on this board.

The clutch free travel is 3/4 to 1 inch.
The eye bolt for adjustment is screwed all the way in.

As long as you have free travel at top of clutch pedal movement you will be fine. Should be able to push down on clutch pedal a couple inches or so before it gets stiff. As clutch wears back out adjuster to make clutch engage/disengage ok and still have that free travel at the top.
