Can anyone tell me if the "winged" base that is located between the side panel and the front headlight assembly was part of the original tractors equipment. My 8n is post 1950, someone has mounted front lights with brackets that stick out from the side panel with the lights mounted on top of these side brackets. I do not believe this is OEM. I would like to restore the front lighting to match OEM but I noticed some tractors have these "winged" bases, do I need them? thks Ron

Hey RB-
What the others said is true. Lights were dealer installed options -none left the assembly with them. The sheet metal has two punch outs for the mounting bolts. The "winged" brackets were used until 1950 then the round "cups" were used with the headlights. What you have sounds exactly like the Canadien style with "pie-wedge" shaped brackets. If you are looking for the original Tract-O-Lite headlights and such try this auction site or ebay has a set on there now with the cups for your 50 8N.

HTH
Tim

My 49 does have the wings. MY tractor is a good one to fix up and I plan to. Not a single dent in the sheet metal and everything there as original. I'm thinking abo9ut doing a restoration on it when I get up a little more nerve.

I paid a decent price for it. I gave 2500 but got two plows and a bush hog in the deal.

My understanding that all 8N's come from the factory with no lights. Lights were a dealer installed option and therefore some variation exists. The type of light bracket you describe seem to be most common on N's that were sold in Canada. Maybe Canadian dealers had a different source for the lighting hardware(?).

The Ford parts manual only shows them as a part on the '39-49 versions. 1950 and later had a standard swivel socket set up.
