Another big day for Old Warrior, my almost restored NAA. I fixed the leak around the high pressure hyd line by replacing the generic o-rings with CNH brown o-rings, a little fatter and a little harder. Ran all day with no leaks. I trimmed about 1/2" off the proof meter cable and put a small rubber gasket around the threaded shaft on the back of the proof meter, I can now hand tighten the proof meter cable and it still works. I fixed my hand throttle linkage, installed cotter pins all over the tractor, dumped in a bottle of alumiseal and ran it at 1500 RPM for a couple of hours. The coolant leak around the new freeze plug is almost gone, a couple more hours should fix that. By that time I had run outta things to do, so I had to do what I most feared, open the tranny to see why it was stuck in gear. So off came the cover, and I peered down the left side to the bottom where Dan had said to go, and with my long pry bar just touched the gear and it slid forward. My tranny is fixed! I was so happy I removed the cover again and put another coat of red on it to make it shine like it's still wet. It's back on now, and altogether willing to go into all four gears, plus reverse. But a couple of gotchas did show up. The Sherman won't go into low. It'll go into normal, neutral, and high, but it just won't get itself down in low range, and after playing with my lift and hooking up all the arms and linkage, I noticed after I shut it down, that the arms went down immediately. That is a major bummer. I've got a leak, probably in my piston, and I'll need to look at it while it's running and then pull that darn control section off again when I figure out where it's leaking. It sure does work well otherwise, I have both modes nailed on the adjustment and alignment, can't believe I left it leaking internally, but all in all, I am pleased with my progress today. Thanks Dan! It's a good thing you weren't here today, I mighta had to hug you when that tranny fix worked, and that wouldn't have been manly at all. Ramrod
