Ever use a commercial paint stripper to remove the old paint on sensitive parts that you don't want full of grit? Sandblaster gets dust in everyplace and I thought I would go chemical. Any good products?

I started out with oven cleaner, but it was taking a long time and multiple applications to eat through the 4-5 layers of paint on my '50 8N. I bought some industrial-strength stuff from my local Ace Hardware (small town, old-timey store with a little of everything in it). First application got most of the paint, second finished it off (except for a few really stubborn places).

I put it on with an old paint brush and used a pressure washer to blast it off.

Problem is, I quit working on it over the winter and it's now all rusted up! I'm using a wire brush to clean it up prior to painting...

Try dollar store oven cleaner. Works great with half the cost!

Good luck,
Dan

The dollar store oven cleaner is nothing but lye(NAOH sodium hydroxide) in a handy dandy applicator. I have some that I use because it is handy but it is a whole lot cheaper if you buy your lye in bulk at a chemical company...look in the yellow pages under chemical. If you cant find it there call around to some pool places they carry it sometimes. Youll save a lot of money if you have many parts to do
