Took off the PTO side inspection plate, got a good look at my piston leaking down, nice trickle there. I also can see where my inlet tube is drooling too. I figure another new CNH o ring and back up washer will fix the piston (after a close inspection of the cylinder), but the inlet tube leak does concern me a bit. You can see from the pic that I have already JB Welded the fissure left behind by an old leak left long unattended , but I can see where the edges of the tube in the casting look a bit sloppy. The leak is all internal, so that would figure to be the cause. I don't think JB Weld is the answer here, could I get enough down the crack and around the tube to hold the pressure? What about silver solder? Any ideas?

My inlet tube looks just like that - a little sunken in. Did you use the CNH lift cover gasket, or the one in the Tisco lift cover repair kit? The CNH one is almost rubber-like and much stronger than the paper gasket in the Tisco kit. I can't see that spot causing the leak from your pic...

Hay Dan, did you really look at that tube? It's just kinda conducting a steady stream of oil down its sides to the pool below. I don't think I woulda seen it if it hadn't burped a dollup and made a splash. If it is loose and can be raised and lowered like Rob said his does, I can see where it would leak down the sides around the outside of the tube and stay all inside the gasket. You reckon it could be designed to do that as a sort of pressure relief or flow meter? I'll pull the cover again and check further when my parts come in from CNH, maybe today.

If the tube is loose inside the housing I would put some gasket sealer on the tube and stick it back in. Mine is tight in the housing (i.e - I cannot move it) and that is the way I would imagine they need to be. I'll check mine tonight while running though and let you know if I see the same thing on mine. When I pulled the lift cover the first time, there was a small o-ring sitting in that recessed area where the tube is sunk down a bit as you can see in your pic. I put it back in place when I rebuilt the lift cover the first time, but found it clogging up my cylinder openings when I pulled the lift cover the second time. So, it must not go there, and I could not see it in any manuals. They may have done this originally to help that problem...

Here is a pic where you might be able to see what I am talking about. If not, go to my website and it is the second pic under the "estoring" section - it is much bigger.

On my 8N that tube comes out when you grab it gently with pliers and twist and lift.

When it goes back together, I smear some non-hardening gasket goop around the outside of the tube and push it back in. Work it some and lift the tube 3/4", smear some gasket goop around the outside of both ends, and drive (wood block) it back into place.

Another way to go is to use a dulled nail as a punch and peen all the way around the inside to expand the tube. I need mine to come out so I use the gasket goop. I might use the gasket goop anyway.
