Hey, thanks for all the good advice. No I am with you guys on keeping this 8n running. I enjoy working on it although not very knowledgable. I have learned more in the last month from this board and working on the tractor, its just I am such a green horn, I thought when I saw the brown sludge in radiator, I might have really screwed up my tractor for good. I am hoping that it was just old stuff in radiator that broke loose when it got very hot. Like I said before oil at dipstick was at the same level as it was before I use the tractor that day, and looked O.K. If I was to run the tractor right now would that old crude hurt the tractor?? And Could someone explain How I should clean out the radiator and flush it and also what kind of radiator fluid would be best to replace.I am hooked on my 8n and I plan on doing a full restoration eventually. I just thought I had killed a beautifull little trator!!!!! Also I have also read alot of Dell's posts and he seems to be the man with these tractors, just wish he could be in my back yard tomarrow showing me what to do.Any help on flushing that radiator and what to look for be would be great Thanks Guys

i agree with old.. if there's a slicker int he radiator.. drain it.. then flush it. I've not tried the vinegar trick, but I have heard of it. There are also comercial radiator flush products setting on auto store shelves.

Do the flush.. then refill with water and run.. look for that slicker again after a few hours of use ( let it cool before popping the cap! )

Sometimes some old farmers had a bad head gasket.. fixed it in field.. and never drained the radiator good.. and just let it run. A very light skim on the water is more or less normal / ok. If it returns or gets worse.. consider putting a head gasket onit. Keep checking the oil and radiator every day you use it.. Look for water loss / oil emulsion.

When the head gasket goes.. you really don't get crankcase oil in the radiator.. but combustion byproducts that do nearly as good a job at emulsifying in the water.

Well if was my tractor I'd drain what you have in it now. Then go to the store and get some vineagar, fill it up with that and run it for an hour or so. Drain it after it has cooled and the flush the system with water. Then fill it back up with ainti freeze and go

Running vineagr for an hour or so will not hurt the engine or rad. but it will clean out the crude in the engine and rad. I just fill it up with vineagar sort of depends on the tractor on how much it takes. I've used it on a number of tractors that would over heat and since doing that none have overheated again. As far as how old is old I'm that old
