Well, the biggest hurdle has been cleared. The engine has oil pressure and wants to run. The problem now? It only wants to run for approx 30 seconds and quit. I'm using a temp gas tank, which seems to provide a good fuel flow. The carb was rebuilt by FNH and still leaks slightly. When it quits, it does'nt sputter and die, it just dies and does'nt want to start again. When it's running it's very smooth. Everything on it is new or rebuilt except the coil. The oil pressure is about 30 lbs and the ammeter is reading approx 20 amps when it runs. The ignition switch is new. I'm guessing I should replace the coil. Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Rick

Rick..... .I had to go back a couple of pages to find out that you have a 2N with a 8N engine. I'm gonna guess that it is still a "frontmount" ignition system.

In that case, 6 volt or 12 volt, don't really matter, replace your ballast resistor on the backside of your dashpanel. It takes about 30 - 60 seconds for it to heat up to operating tempature, and in your case, it opens up electrically and vola', your sparkies stop sparking until the ballast resistor cools down enuff to make contact again which usually takes over 1 hour.

FYI..... it takes about 15 min for a bad ignition switch to go bad
FYI..... it takes about 30 min for a bad ignition coil to go bad

hope this helps..... ..Dell

Sorry Dell, I didn't mean to remind you of your ex-wife (mindreading). I posted that while rushing to get ready for work. Yes it's a 46 2N with 8N block, 6 volt front-mount. Hopefully today I'll find time to locate a ballast resistor. Do you know if FNH carries them, or is it a common item that I could pick up at any tractor place?
Thanks again, Rick

Dell, I'm fortunate to have a great farm equipment dealer about 20 miles from me who specializes in N parts. Dropped by this aft and picked up the ballast resistor and coil (just in case). I have to work tonight, so I won't have time to try it today. I'll be sure to let you know how things work out on the weekend.
