After reading some past posts on this board, I am not sure if I am putting the right oil in my 8n.The New Holland dealer who did tune up when i first bought it put in 10w-30. said that would work fine in my tractor, Now I read that might be to thin??? What is the best oil to run and what should my oil pressure be reading. Figure since I am going to to Radiator flush maybe I will do an oil change after????

Actually I think the 10w30 should be OK. I've run 10w40 for many years. This spring I went to 30wt to see if it made any significant improvement in the oil pressure in hot weather. It seems to bring it up a few pounds.....maybe 3 to 5 above where it was before. As far as I'm concerned it's more important to change it regularly and keep reasonably clean oil in them than to worry too much over what kind.
Good Luck, Lee

peter, the main reason to go to a lighter multi-viscosity oil (10w-30 or 10w-40) is for easier starting in winter months up north, especially outside tractors. and, for generally light duty like snow plowing. some stay with that oil during the summer, but i go to the recommended non-det 30w for hot summer, brush hoggin', plowin' months. hth

We used a 10w30 in all our engines. Tractors, cars and trucks and lawnmowers. I dont think I would go from a detergent to a nondetergent. I would change oil in the early fall and again in the spring just before starting field work.

We used 10W-30 in the 1950s when these tractors were newer. There may be better choices today if you live where it is often 90-degrees-plus and you work your Ford hard. Then 15W-40 my be a slightly better choice. Mike-Iowa
