Thought I would mow for a few minutes today.
Side yard at my parents house was kinda mushy when I mowed last.
So I had left it to a later time.
It has a whole line of bush/hedges on one side.
I got over there mowing as close as I could.
Forgot I was wearing my new hat.
A low bunch of brush knocked my hat off and it fell rite in front of the mower.
Of course the mower sucked it rite up and shredded it real good before spitting it out.
Guess I gotta get another new hat now.

We live and learn (just barely).

I, too have lost several hats! Also lost a nice newfangled Clock with the LCD readout back when they first came out! I was proud of that clock, modern technology on a antique tractor! Of course, the first afternoon I used it to bush-hog, a low-hanging tree limb knocked it off, and all I found was a few electronic components. Of course, nowadays, they are really cheap, but at the time, it was a fair chunk o' change! Here is a pic of the last straw-hat I had eaten by the HOG! Still have it, but never wear it! Just keep it about to show to folks! Yep, them BH's eat much stuffs! Had a blade come unglued and eat the starboard rear tyre! Water went everywhere! Of course, it was on the weekend, when the local tyre place was closed! Wrecked the h** outta the tyre! Huge Hole! Hadda buy a new one, and the new ones don't match the old, so for many years, the rear tyres were different! Of course, now that Tucker Tyre offers nice rim&tyre combos, I have a new set that matches, and kept the old for spares! Won't get caught again!!

I was hogging once and all of a sudden a spray of cool water hit me in the back. My stainless steel fire extinguisher fell under and that was that. I was lucky no shrapnell came out.

Never killed my hat, but ran on one of those steel fence posts hid'in in the weeds -- drove it out the front corner of the hog about halfway -- hooked the log chain on it and hauled tractor & hog sideways down the road apiece -- didn't come unstuck until I giv'er some slack and popped her pretty hard. Hog OK, log chain didn't break, fence post to the junk pile and lazy operator somewhat wiser..... .

Pooh Bear, First year I had my 8n the grill fell out and went thru the bush hog. What a racket that made and grey spokes all over the place. Second year my brand new $300 pair of prescription glasses got knocked off my face by a low tree branch and went right under the bush hog. Nothing left but pieces. Live and learn the hard way..... ..... .BG

Nice place! What state? I nearly lost my last old tiger stripe boonie hat to the peach tree & the finishing mower; I figured it was shredded. Had one rough spot on it, but it survived. Anyway, I retired it. Hat is almost as old as the tractor.

Pooh Bear: Nice place! It must be great living next to the river. I never lost anything to my bush hog but I buried my wallet about 2 feet in the ground with my box blade last December. I realized it was missing and was able to find it in a large mudhole I had filled in. Once I washed & dried everything, even the money was OK. GA Jim

I don't think I could stop my tractor in time, but I try to keep the brakes working good so I at least have a chance to keep the hat/sunglasses/cell phone/ etc. from going under the mower. So far, so good!

Nice pictures of your place. Ain't technology great!

Hi Michael,
My mower story isn't hats or cell phones it is barb wire. Off of one fence post was about 6 feet of wire that I had been meaning to do something with, it was the end of the top string on a fence row. The mower did wonderful things with it! It took a torch to get many hundreds of feet of wire off the shaft and I am sure there are staples that still orbit the earth!

Ouch! Done that too many times to count. But my favorite has to be the bundles of baler twine that some farmers leave on the back of their flatbeds to blow out in the ditch. I do my best to find them first, but sometimes there is only a single strand attached to a bundle hiding in the tall grass. I really like the way the plastic string melts around the shaft and blade mounts. I haven't had any permanent damage, but the whump, whump, whump always means a trip back to the shop!

I lost my Superbowl hat last year to the mower. This year it took my cell phone.

Now I wear old hats and button my cell phone pocket. It's odd that as these tractors live on through the years, they get appetites for new things. A Superbowl Hat nor a cell phone even existed when they were made. Talk about being able to flow with the times!!!

I hear ya, I had my eyeglasses swipped off before I knew what happened. Needless to say, It's hard to drive 125 miles without glasses. I now carry an extra old pair.
