Looked at a tractor today! May buy it.

Any info is appreciated. Nice tractor. Has FEL, back-hoe, power steering. Thanks!

BillM sounds like he has you covered. I have a book at work that breaks down serial numbers by the month. If you're interested in knowing which month your 4000 Industrial was built, send me an email on Monday with your serial number and I'll look it up. I'm looking forward to the pictures. Take lots of pics. I like close up views of various parts, especially on units like yours that I'm not very familiar with.

8n Nut: If 40303 is the model number, that would indicate an industrial type built before 1963, 172 CI OHV red tiger engine, non adjustable front axle, 4 speed tranny, hydraulic system and PTO. If all this matches, that's what she is.

You should look here to see if the tractor you are looking at matches any of the ones pictured on this web page.

Nutty..... ...with a double line of numbers and POWER STEERING, it AIN'T flathead N-Tractor like yer 8N. Probably a hundred series with OHV engine and cyclops grill badge. Could be a 601 but most likely a 1961 801 with the power steering and 172 cu/in engine. Tractor s/n and model info should be stampped on left front corner of tranny..... ..Dell

Looks like a 1944 2N (perhaps built on March 3???)
