After speaking with Andy at Genesee, we agreed that the Pertronix unit had to be in the wrong position. Short version: it was. There was a non-factory screw with a large head that was blocking it -- I had put it into the only location it would go, thinking that it was correct.I can only guess that someone working on the tractor, perhaps my grandfather (he bought the tractor new and it's been was handed down to me) lost the original screw while working on it and used whatever was at hand. Anyway, I replaced the large-head screw with a smaller ignition screw, and I was then able to get the Pertronix module in its proper location. Bingo! Problem solved. Many thanks to everyone who offered suggestions about the possible problem, and a very big thank you to Andy at Genesee, who saw my posts here AND CALLED ME to discuss the problem. That is a level of customer service that's almost unheard of these days. The worst part, though, is that Tropical Storm Arlene has brought more rain this weekend, preventing me from doing tractor work today! Richard
