Does anybody know if the screen that is inside the air cleaner directly above the oil bath at the bottom comes out? It is really gunked up and LOOKS like maybe it might come out with effort but the FO-4 blow up diagram doesn't show it as coming out (if memory serves me). I would like to be able to clean the screen and also to access the inside of the air cleaner "can" to roll out a dent. Can't believe the trouble I am having getting the last layer (gray) of paint off this thing.

My 1945 2N Air cleaner dosen't have any spring clips. The lip has those square machine punches all around to hold everything in place. I was gonna try pushing them in to remove the screen and do some dent removal too but decided against it. I put it in my electrolysis bath and it came out nice and clean

Yep, it does. Remove the oil bath cup. Pull down on mesh w/pliers. Mine had 2 T-pins to keep it from unraveling. Clean w/favorite solution. Roll, clip, reinstall. That said, my dad's 8N mesh was so bad he tossed it. Replaced w/2 or 3 copper chore girl brillo-type pads. HTH....don t. ....

Spring clip.. remove.. wash in solvent.. reinstall. Some people remove the whole cleaner assy and wash it in solvent to save the hassle of removing the steel 'gauze'.
