It's been hot as the dickens here in Ohio- 90+. Within a half hour of bushoggin', I get steady steam and when I shut down, about a pint of antifreeze. I don't think there's a thermostat.

I just got through flushing my system for several hours then refilling with mostly rain water and a little anti-freeze. I should be good to go down here in Texas I hope.

Yeah, my old Bessie gets pretty hot down here in Marietta @ 90+ -- especially when I finish mow 6-8" tall stuff on the hilly terrain. I have a 6 blade puller and t-stat, but no shroud and fan belt loosens up from time to time. I just watch oil pressure and keep on mowin'. She just burbles and gurgles after I shut her down, and will boil the gas tank when it gets low. So far, no big problem - just a little worrysome.

Always double check your fuel mixture too. A too lean of a mixture will cause an engine to run hot

Hey Greenhorn,I've read many post like yours and it seems they get the same 2/3 answers. (1) all N's heat up in 90+ mowing weather,(2)radiator and block need cleaning,(3)thermastate and "fan belt"not operating proper.I'll ask this one, Which fan do you have,,,pusher or puller? Seems (I think)the puller does better in Hot weather areas.

I have a '50 8N with a pusher blade on it. I live in the panhandle of Fl.(AKA known as LA,lower Al.) My 8N hardley ever gets above 180 degrees. Of course I don't let the grass/weeds get 2 to 3 ft' tall. I cut with a 5' bush hog that is adjusted so you can't tell if it was cut with a finish mower or not. Today the temp was 92 with a heat index of 101.
