Steering rod question

The permanent end of the left steering rod on my 1945 2N is shot.

Has anybody here successfully modded that original rod by cutting, boring and tapping the end to take a standard tie rod end? It seems like it would be an easy thing to do in the lathe. Wondering if there is any reason it might be ill-advised.

Thanks!

When I was going through my restoration, my left side drag link was wore out and loose as you describe. I was able to find one good one at the local salvage yard that was just as good as my right hand side. If you really want a replacable unit, why not just use an 8N drag link instead? They were made with both ends replacable as you are looking for.
