Hey Fellas,
The other day, my gradfather and I were shooting the breeze about my "51 8N. Back in the day, he was an Oliver man. He owned a 66, a 70, a 77, and an 88. He said that Oliver made a model 55 that he thought was about the same size as my 8N. I haven"t been able to find much information on the 55. Are any of you familiar with the Oliver 55? How does it stack up against the 8N? Is is larger, smaller, lighter, heaver? Live PTO and hydraulics? Gas or diesel? When were they produced? Thanks.

John

Compression - 6.5:1
Max PTO H/P - 26.19
SAE PTO H/P - 23.22
Max Drawbar H/P - 21.95
SAE Drawbar H/P - 17.37
Fuel Use (gal/hr) - 2.35
Weight - 2,410

1954 Oliver Super 55 HC
Engine - 4 cyl vertical I Head
Compression - 7:1
Max PTO H/P - 34.39
SAE PTO H/P - 30.50
Max Drawbar H/P - 29.60
SAE Drawbar H/P - 23.06

There is your comparison in a nutshell.

The fact that you can't find much information about them should give an indication of how they stack up against the N's

jiminoy, Theres a lot of info out there about the old Oliver 55 or as they where really called Super 55. And a S55 would pull circles around an 8N by the way. And no I don't just like Olivers I have fords, olivers and a few other colors also. 2 of the fords I have are 8Ns

That's a good point. But, I think they're rare because Oliver owners were looking for large draw-bar type trators not small utility type tractors. By the time the Oliver Super 55 came out, Ford already had a lock on the small tractor market.

Yes the Oliver S55 is not a very common tractor.
The S55 is about 34HP by the way which makes them a lot bigger HP wise then the 8N

The Oliver super 55 which is the right name for it would be more like an 801. Yep live pto, and thats true live pto, clutch doesn't do anything to the pto. Hyds also live. Side by side an 801 and a S55 look also most the same as far as how tall and how long. I think the S55 would out pull an 801 but not sure, I know a 77 will out pull an 801
