I am converting to a 12 volt negative ground system.I will use the 6 volt coil for now with a resistor.Do I need to reverse the wire to the coil? If so how?If not why?tractor is a 9n.I remember doing this on a car and without reversing the wires the car ran but not as well, thankyou .

If this were a side mount 8n, yes.. you would swap the wires onthe coil so that the proper polarity went to the points (ground)

Unfortunately.. on the front mounts.. they are hard wired due to the physical locations of the connections.

You will need the dropping resistor along with your ballast resistor.

Do yourself a favor.. get a 12v tisco style coil at some point and swap it in, and remove the other 2 resistors and instead use a 1/2 ohm 20w resistor made from (2) 1-ohm 10w resistors hooked up in parallel... will goive you extra sparkies!
