I'd like to hit the ground running tomorrow. Someone could really help me if you could tell me how and where the hood of my 1944 9N is bolted on.
I see 4 bolt holes in the dash and it looks like there is one bolt in each dogleg (I&T FO4) and then it should lift off? Time to get serious about this project and I need all this iron out of the way.

6'er,
9N? Did it morph?
What's been said and..... it's probably best to remove the steering wheel. Helps just a little getting the hood off, but helps a whole lot putting it back on.

If you have 2 people to lift
up the hood you can sneak it
under the the steering wheel.
one man job makes it necessary to
remove the wheel or you will have
to be "Arnold" not a "girlyman"

guest,
I agree, you CAN. But there is less room on the 9N/2N than there is on the 8N; so it depends on your model and/or willingness to touch up the paint job (or lack thereof). 8 ^ )

Am I to understand that the gas tank is going to come off WITH the hood? I was hoping to do some mechanical work with the hood out of the way. Am I going to have to rig up a temporary gas tank?
That seems like a crazy design! What was cousin Henry thinkin?

6'er,
Yes. Yes. No tellin'.
I went by a mower shop and got a one quart plastic tank with a barb fitting for a couple bucks. Run a piece of hose into a stub of fuel line. Works real good, lasts long time.

You are on the way..Dash bolts and two dogleg bolts are it..disconnect gas line and any wiring that may be attached to the hood such as wiring for the lights..some help lifting it off is best. Don't bang and gouge your radiator...

6n, your right on the "bolts" BUT there are/could be other connectios. Drain fuel tank, disconnect fuel line (at cutoff),disconnect electrical lines and if you have a cycoln air cleaner, remove it and you should be good to go.
