While I was over at my Father-in-Laws shop sandblasting Rustbucket's hood last weekend, my FIL showed me an antique tractor he picked up. (I think I am infecting him with the Old Iron Desease!) Anyway, he acts like he wants to fix it up, and told me he would just give it to me (like I need another basket case) but he does not know what it is. The back is open and the battery sits right under the steering wheel in the dash. The rear wheels are very tall and is set up for dual tires each side (but currently only has one on each side). Anyone got a clue and can you still find parts for it?

Looks like this MH 20 to me. Assuming the Image URL works.

Russ - what is this tractor in your picture? The one my FIL has had the battery box in the dash like the one in your picture.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
These folks say it's a MH 20 or a 182S. Way I looked at it, this is the 20.

Well, it's definately a MH. I would say that it is most likely a 101jr as it has the continental 4 cylinder engine (probably an F-163, same as continental red seal engines). I know this because I worked on a couple Long Model A tractors that used this engine and had to search around to see where I could get engine parts for. I beleive that the 101jr was the only one that used that continental engine. I know that manifold and governor setup anywhere!

I don't think it is a 101 because the bottom frame is flat on my pic and all the 101 pics I can find have a scalloped bottom frame. The Massey 81 looks pretty close.

Well, and i'm no expert on this, but there were two different versions of the 101 and the 102. Those being the "Senior" and "Junior" versions. What the difference is between the senior and junior, i don't know. As others have said, may want to take this to the massey board for further clarification. Massey Harris's do stand out and are distinguished by the scalloped out portions on the sides of the hood.

I did post up on the Massey board - just waiting for an answer. What I have found out in the meantime was the 81 model was an offshoot of the 101, so it appears you were very close.

Thanks for the help Jeb,
Dan

Does it have a 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder?? Sort of looks like a MH 30 from what I can see. But it also looks sort of like my 101SR the 30 has a 4 cylinder and the 101SR has a 6 cylinder

It is a 4 cylinder. The air cleaner is on the left side, and the exhaust stack is on the right. It has lights mounted to the rear of the hood on the sides. The more I see pictures of the Massey 22 model, the more I think it looks like a 49 or 50 model.

It is a Massey Harris, but that is about as far as my knowledge will take me. Could be a '44', but not sure. Post over on the 'Massey' board, and I am sure they will be able to nail it down.

Also had hinges on the side of the hood like a cover comes down over the sides to cover the engine. I did a search on Massey from the photo archives and it "kinda" looks like a late 40 early 50 Massey 22, because of the position of the air cleaner out of the top of the hood (on the left side of the tractor).

Thanks for pointing me the right direction.
