I helped a friend rebuild his 9N engine. It's together and ready to start. We're having the no oil pressure problem. We have primed the pump through the relief valve as we read in back posts. My question is, if I prime it again and leave the pressure relief valve out, shouldn't I see oil pumping out the front of the engine when I crank it? I'm thinking to try that so at least I can see it pump. Will it come out or will the oil flow down the path the the relief valve dumps the oil? Second question, if I pump oil in the outlet where the pressure comes out for the filter and gauge will I pump oil throughout the system? Or again will it just dump down the relief valve outlet. I would like to pressurize the system before starting or cranking anymore as he has cranked the engine a bunch with no pressure.

You shouldn't have to use heavy oil if you got everything all sealed up good. Are you sure you don't have a restriction in the lines someplace? Also did you install a gasket between the back plate and the pump body? I had a problem with my dad's tractor with the pickup tube assembly doing this. Some of those older pickup tubes have to be pressed into the pump plate, his never seated right. New Holland sells a pickup tube which the plate is incorporated into the tube as one piece. I don't know if the version the online venders sell is like that or the other style but it's something to look into if you can't get it going. It is common for it to suck air there. Also did you put the galley plugs back into the block? I can't recall at the moment but one is in the back of the motor and the other is behind the cam gear I think. Look in your IT shop manual it should say.

Fazzie..... ...I'd re-prime the oil pump thru the pressure relief valve with HEAVY OIL (90wt or 140wt) and close the pressure relif valve. Then I'd open the oilpressue "T" block to look for oil-flow BEFORE it goes into the oil filter. Fluids always look for the EAZY flow. Bearing clearances are flow restricing compaired to an open line.

And until yer engine starts, you really don't haffta worry about lack of oil pressure. Your friend did use "assembly-lube" on his bearings during the re-build, didn't he? Assembly-lube takes several hours of oil-pressure to wash it out. This why you change yer engine oil on a new re-build after about 10 hrs of running..... ..Dell

Thanks for the responce Dell. I'll try that out. We did put 90 weight down there but still no pressure. I guess it doesn't make a difference if I let the oil out the front or by the tee.
