With the pto on. I can lift and lower implements, but when I push in the clutch, even with the position control lever up, the implement will lower. I was told it should stay up. Does this ring a bell with anyone??? What to look at first to correct??

Before you go into the lift cover to replace the ram seals, getcha a I&T FO-4 manual from this fine site or others (on or off line). It's worth every penny of the ~$25 you'll pay. It may save you a lot of headaches later on. Good luck. Steve

Peter, this is usually an indication of a leaking ram cylinder. Take off the right inspection plate, and with tractor in neutrel and a load on the lift, look up at the top pump cover. If you see a stream of fluid running down, the cylinder is leaking. It's best to order a NAA ram cylinder with neoprene o-ring and back up washer. Cost about $22. James

Question here is how long does it take for the hydraulics to leak down under a load? If it goes down immediately, then you have a serious leak, if you are talking about 30 minutes, then that is not to bad, a day or longer, you should be proud!

I have an 8n that had a similar problem. As soon as I pushed in the clutch (or even put the enging to an idle) the lift immediately started to drop. In my case, it was a $3 gasket that was blown. Replaced it and now it takes 60 minutes for it to drop with a rotary cutter on it. I am sure that I have another leak elsewhere, but not going to worry about it until this winter when I have time to re-do the whole tractor.

best wishes
