picked up a 48 8n with a 9n engine frount mount dist with 12volt conversion. wont fire. all wires are shinny and tight. points set and dist timed. beleive wireing is wrong? here is how it is wired starteing with alt. p2 wire runs to bat connection of alt. p1 goes to accessory on ign switch with a light hooked up in middle.wire runs from bat connection on alt to + side of amp guage and wire runs from there to bat connection on ign switch. - side goes to selonoid where bat cable connects. 12volt coil is connected to ballest resitor and that connects to ign side of ignition switch. push switch is hooked up right. thats the way she is wired. any suggestions? thanks in advance

Roger..... ..dunno why yer tractor won't start. You've described the typical 12v conversion precicely as I would.

And while you claim yer points are set, (0.015") they've been known to slip closed ennyways. The short #8-32x3/16 points screw gitts invisable wear and won't hold. p/n 355047-S8, $50c, cheap.

Also, check yer squarecan ignition coil's springy-thingy. Gently pull and stretch for more certain contact with the points head screw.

Lastly, the most obvious, can you PROVE that you have volts to the coil's top terminal? (voltmeter or test-lite?)..... ...Dell, a 12-volt advocate who knows 8-ways to convert and they all work
