Am I just lucky or what. I have a '49 front mount that always starts. I read all the posts of folks having trouble with points wires and such not.
I've had my N about ten years now,I put new point wiring harness, plugs wires, cap on it when I brought it home just because. Since the I have changed points and cap once. I bought a new coil and bunch of other parts when Farm& Fleet went under and they just sit on the self now.
I don't do proper maintainence just a hit and lick no again and the tractor sits outside 24/7/365. Is it possible that I don't have the problems because I run it almost every day for some length of time? I know that it has never set a week with out being run since I have owned it. Just something that I ponder on everynow and again when I read this board.

My 8n has been thru 4 sets of spark plugs.. I've owned it for ? 4 years... I've 'filed' the points once.... Naa is on the same set of new points from when I got it.

my 2n is on the same set of points since i got it. My IH cub is on the same set of points since I got it.. did file once...

I have a box of new un-opened plastic baggies of points for my tractors... left over from ignition packages that have the caps and all.. I gues sone day I may actually have to change the points.. still waiting though.

One thing I'll add.. My tractors do stay under cover.. in a barn or leanto. And when i have filed the points.. I do use an ignition hone.. not a regular file. I also have 1 feeler gauge set just for points.. it stays nice and dry and clean.. doesn't get used for plugs or other things..

The longer I"ve had my tractors the more I"ve come to believe what you say is true. The more you run and use them the better they will be. I don"t believe in abusing them and I do maintain them fairly well, but if I let them set without using them, the more likely something seems to go wrong.
