I am in the process of rewiring my 8N tractor which had been converted to 12 volts when I bought it.OK,OK,I know this is a no-no,but it was that way when I bought it,so I want to keep it that way as I kinda like how it cranks.Anyway, while searching out wiring diagrams,I see a side marker light wired in between P1 of the alternator and the accessory terminal.I hate to be dumb, but can anyone tell me what this is for?I want to do it right,so I'm gonna put it in there, just would like to understand its job.As always,THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Old8Ner..... .without that sidemarket light from P1, your alternator would "backfeed" battery voltage to your ignition coil and you would never beable to turn off your engine even when you turn off the key.

The sidemarker light acts like the idiot light on the dash of your chevy that the alternator was originally designed for.

I could pontificate for pages about the technical reasons, and I know at least 3 ways to solve the problem. BUT...I know its weird but trust me, its the eaziest way to solve that backfeed problem and turn off the engine..... .Dell

You can also use a 1 amp, 50 volt diode to stop the backfeeding. 35 cents at any electronics supply house.

quite right, and how do you explain to the electrically challenged which way to install it? At least lightbulbs don't care and they work..... .Dell
