My 8n will not stay up when the clutch is depressed. i pulled the right side round cover and with a load on the hitch i see some oil coming from the mouth of the ram cyl. but to the right towards the head of the ram cyl. the oil is really pouring.when i push the clutch in , the load drops and the oil continues until the load is off.Does this sound like where the problem is and where is the oil coming coming from?

You have a blown ram cylinder to lift housing gasket.

You will have to pull the lift cover off and then remove the four bolts holding the ram cylinder to the hydraulic housing casting. Clean both mating surfaces and replace all three gaskets. One has three holes in it and is what actually contains the pressurized oil. The other two are just ther to make the ram cylinder be level so the three hole one doesn't blow out from being unlevel.

Be sure and hone the cylinder while it is out and replace the steel rings or obtain a new NAA piston that carries the rubber O ring with backup washer.

Good time to replace your pressure relief valve too while it is easy to get to with the cover off. However you can replace it with the cover on by going through the left side inspection plate opening.

Hunter..... ..yep, that the stand-pipe leakin' thru the seat-cover gasket. The stand-pipe is on the right-side of the hydraulic chamber and passes hydraulic pressure from the hydraulic pump under all that oil UP-TO the hy-trol control valve under yer butt-buckett. Just a seat gaskett replacement job.

Howsomevers; yer also reporting lifting cylinder leakage. Most would take this opportunity to replace the old 3-ring piston with the new improved NAA O-Ring piston. A much more "forgiving" and really improves lift-piston performance. $25, cheap.

These are all discussed many times before, iff'n you really wannna giffyer eyeballs a workout, do an "archive search" at the top of this great N-Board.

Otherwize, consult yer I&T FO-4 manual. $22, cheap..... ....Dell

Get a round side cover gasket.. a top cover gasket, and the 3 small gaskets that go under the ram cylinder.. the new naa piston, oring and washer. Most places sell a leather washer.. CNH has a neophrene washer if you want it..

You are probably looking at less than 40$ worth of stuff.. most of it is the 28$ piston.. etc.

found the problem :(
When dufus rebuilt the pump, he neglected to tighten the 4 bolts that held the lift cyl in place ! so it was sliding back and forth, wiping out the gaskets and cracking 3 of the ears that the bolts go through.didn't break them all the way, just a wedge near the face.thought i might try to find someone good with a welder to fix them.failing that, there goes another 85 bucks !
