What does the ignition coil bolt to on the front of a '50 8N? When I bought mine, the coil was laying on top of the head, held down by the corner head bolt. I'd like to get mine out from under the head bolt, and there is no place to bolt it to the front of the head. Maybe I need to drill and tap the front of the head? I have the head off now, replacing the head gasket, and would like to correct this problem before installing the head. Thanks for the input...RMAC

After seeing Hobe,NC pic., and reading bob's rebark, I doubled checked and sure enough, must have an older head on newer block. Mine is a side mount dist. Is it safe to drill and tap a 7/16" or 3/8" hole in the front of the head to mount the coil? Will It effect the torque if I just remount it under the corner head bolt? Thanks a lot, RMAC

You seem to have a head for an older (front-mount distributor) engine installed on a newer (side-mount distributor engine), and are lacking a bolt hole or two in the older head.

There"s coil mount bolts out the front and side of the head. Maybe yours are broke off in the head. Chip some paint and see.
