What have you folks found to be good at removing all the old dirt and caked on oil and leaving a clean surface in preparation for painting? I'm talking about big stuff that can't be dipped.

Robert

I"ve got a recipe (that has been posted in this site before) for mixing up a cleaner/stripper. It is easy and cheap to make (much more so than oven cleaner) and it works. e-mail me if you want me to send you this as it is rather long. You can un-hide your e-mail or simply reply to this and list your e-mail.

Thanks Soundguy. I tried using engine degreaser in the spray can. I sprayed it on and waited about an hour. Washed it off and could barely tell it did anything. Carb cleaner sounds like it might do some good. I seem to remember it is pretty strong stuff.

I have decent luck with the cheap dollar store oven cleaner, scrape off the big chunks, spray it,smear it around, spray some more then power wash it..may have to do it a few times in the really bad areas, but it"ll get it clean, even takes off some of the old paint..
