I tried the pertronix conversion on a 6v positive ground , front mount ford 8n. It didn't work.
I followed the directions that said to connect the coil to ground, and connect the black wire from the ignitor to the switch. I used the wire that connected the coil to the switch to connect the ignitor to the switch since it was no longer being used by the coil.

Has anyone successfully done this conversion ? Is this the correct way to connect it ?

I don't think they told you to "...ground the coil..." The normal Pertronix connection is battery voltage, in your case 6 V, to the black wire that comes out of the distributor. As Dell said, you can't go through the ballast resistor 'cuz that'll give you less than 6 V. The red wire is connected to the distributor side of the coil. Dell's right. You need to talk to the tech reps at Pertronix.

Oralando..... ....this is NOT to KNOCK Pertronix, as they have an excellent reputation ...BUT... it won't work iff'n powered THRU yer "infamous ballast resistor" 'cuz it cuts the 6-volt battery down to 3-volts. Pertronix won't work on 3-volts, period. Iff'n you can't understand or follow their instructions and you have problems, call them. That is what their service number is for..... .....respectfully, Dell
