After about 5 years of great service I decided that it was time to do a rebuild on my #1 Jubilee - Henry. During the teardown today I found exhuast manifold cracked at #4 position. I found tremendous amounts of carbon caked on the top of the head at #3 and #4. The tops of the pistons were covered and seemingly pitted and did find copper showing on the rod bearings. I havent pulled the motor from the tractor or removed crank. "HMM- can I realy do all of this" I am thinking or should I just take torn down engine to a machine shop and let them do it. I have all kinds of questions now: How do I know if pistons and/or rings are bad or not? Rings seemed real loose on removed pistons.Should I try to rebiuld my geared oil pump or replace with newer Grotr style? First glance on old pump seemed OK and it did have decent oil pressure before teardown. 50-60 psi What should I look for in the governor - I havent taken cover off? Can I manhandle the block, crank and flywheel clutch off with two people to seperate or should I use my other tractor and boom pole to split? Is there anything more than what I&T says about rebuild that I may need to know? tricks, advice, etc? Can I "hot clean" the block here at home with hot soap and water with compressed air and maybe a little kerosene for the thick crud? I know I will have to send the head off to get reworked. What can I expect to be asked or should I be able to tell them to "rework it" and be at that. I did see ford logo on valves. Tractor was smoking like a freight train..all colors of smoke and loosing (not leaking) about a quart every 2-3 hours. Yes all of the rings are there and intact. Could the oil loss have been due to a cracked exhuast manifold? Did I tear Henry down for nothing? Proceding on as if I didn't. Any advice appreciated and will keep learning experiences posted for those that follow. Have a Great 4th. Oh yeah - should I replace clutch and pressure plate? So many questions now!!
