My 52 8N starts and runs well, but after an hour of bush-hogging, it begins to run rough and needs full choke to keep from dying when in a working mode. I've overhauled the carb, new plugs, new points last fall. The engine was overhauled 7 years ago and converted to 12 volt. Help!

If it needs choke.. either you have a vacume leak, tank vacume, or weak sparks.. All easy to check.

On this 12v conversion.. you using a 12v coil? Or a chincy dropping resistor and 6v coil? Remember.. NAPA has a good 15$cheap 12v roundcan coil.. no resistors needed.. IC-14SB

I'd look at electrical connections. Keep a jumper wire with you. When it starts to die.. jumper from battery to coil.. if that helps.. something has a bad connection..

Sure sounds like a bad coil. Even if you have replaced it, you need to do it again.
Check wire from coil, also other wires on coil.
This should solve your peoblem

I copied this as it seems to come up so often.

From the infamous Dell notebook!
1)runs for about 1-min and quits; bad condenser
2) runs for about 5-min and quits; clogged fuel filters (3 of'em)
3) runs for about 1-hr and quits; restarts after 4-hr or overnite cool-off; bad coil 4) runs for about 15-min and quits; gunked up ignition switch guttz
