I found this part as I was pulling apart my engine from the frame. Don"t know where it came from. I left a picture of it in the bits and pieces phot gallery. I"ve submitted the link below should take you to it. The tractor was running fine If you can help identify these please post a reply thanks Ron

RBC..... ..yep, spare starter bendix parts (grin) The clutch cavity is made to carry bendix drive part that fall off and will NOT JAMB ennythang in the housing. It just surprizes the in-experienced shadetree mechanic. Bottomline, do not worry, eh?..... ..Dell

Just did mine today with the cornhead grease. It took 2 tubes. I didn't drain out the old oil. It cost $2.40 a tube here in N Alabama. I had to drive to the local JD dealer near Leighton.

Mine is a 49 and I saw the pipe plug but mine also had a 7/16 bolt on the right side about 4 inches above the right steering arm. I drilled and tapped the bolt for a zerk fitting and pumped until it started coming out around the steering wheel.

I adjusted the slack in the steering and works real smooth now.

Looks like part of an old bendix. Found it in the bottom of the bell housing, right?
