I have a 12V conversion with a front mounted distributor. Installing electronic ignition and drawing shows wire going directly from 12v coil to (key)ignition wire. Is this correct? No resistors in line? I remember reading a post from Dell I beleive explaining this but cannot find it as it was some time ago. Any thoughts souNdguy, Dell or others. Thanks

Phil..... ..iff'n yer new squarecan ignition coil is truely a modern 12v squarecan coil, then NO resistor with yer electonic ignition switching module. And iff'n it overheats and melts the internal insulative tar and the sparkies stop sparkeling in about 2hr of operation then complain to the electronic ignition mfgr about their BAD ADVICE and that you followed their instructions EXPLICTLY. no resistor. Make them send you a NEW 12v coil, FREE.

Otherwize, my advice is to protect yer modern 12v coil with my secret "trick" current limiting resistor made from two 10watt 1-ohm power resistors in parallel. This provides 1/2-ohm of current limiting resistance to prevent the 14.7 volts of the 12v alternator from melting yer 12v squarecan ignition coil guttz.

How lucky do you feel?..... ....Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Dell. Am going to do it your way. Understand the two resistors in parallel. Does that negate the existing resistor on the tractor or do you add the two resistors in addition to the original? Thanks, Phil

Phil..... ..use my secret trick 1/2 ohm current limiting resistor with the new 12v squarecan ignition coil. NO OTHER RESISTORS. understand?..... ....Dell

Phil,
I did the same conversion a while back "12V front mount electronic Ignition" I bought the kit from this sight. (I bought the 12v 1 wire kit, wire harness, and flame thower electronic ignition kit)
I stated with just the termnal block resitor.
when I started it up the resistor got red hot and smoked, added another resistor inline to the coil
works perfectly now. this thing starts the first time every time. even if it has been sitting for a week or two.
I'm not sure if I done it "RIGHT" but it works great. best move I made on this 2N.
Just my 2 cents
Dan
