I tuned up my 9N about 1 year ago. New points condensor, rotor, cap, coil etc. A couple weeks ago after it ran about 1 minute, it died liek you turned off the key. After it sat about 5 minutes would start and run fine for another minute and die again, like you turned off the key. Suspected bad condensor. How do you test condensor? Well, I ordered at petronix electronic ig. kit for my 6 volt pos. ground 9 N off this site store.Just came in from installing it. Now it won't run at all. Seems backeward to me. You run a hot wire from the ignition to the "ignitor". Then hook another wire from the "ignitor" to the coil button screw. Put it together then run a ground wire from the coil to the engine block. Followed directions to the "T". WON"T RUN, NO SPARK!!!
Does anyone have any experience with this conversion, Like I said I am going to call them tomorrow just don't want to wait that long!.
Did a search and seen a while back another gentleman was having trouble with the electronic ig. conversion. Plan on calling them tomorrow. Not sure it is what it's cracked up to be.
Seems

I just did this and after a great deal of troubleshooting with the tech support guys it was determined to be a bad unit, also the instructions did not tell me to remove the condenser, being a knuckle dragging mechanic I did not realize that this needed to be removed, runs good with points now and I am still waiting to hear back from the ignitor supplier.

Well, I just talked to the manufacturer tech support. Guess what?!! Bad unit!! Send back to the dealer they say!. I have done everything right. Nguy, already checked spark. NO SPARK!!!!! Fuel is not problem either. Have plenty of fuel to carb. Float not sticking. Plus I just overhauled the carb also about the same time as the tune up. Not the coil either. Have 2 good coils here and have tried both of them. Electronic IGN is junk!!!! Putting old parts back in tonight, I bet I have it running again. Picked up new point, condensor etc this afternoon. Thanks for everyones input.Doesn't look like I am the only one that has had trouble with this so-called Electronic Ign. My advice is save your money and don't buy this junk.

I'm with the others.. that REALY sounded like fuel starvation via a stuck float. Bowl empties.. tractor dies.. after setting 5 mins.. bowl tricckles a little fuel then starts back up.. etc.

An (open) bad condensor will run a few minutes.. burning points the whole time.. then die.. and NOT restart.. due to the burn't points. A (shorted) condensor will immediatly kil the spark.. and then NOT restart due to the short killing the spark. So.. it really doesn't sound like a condensor problem to me.

HAve you removed the ballast resistor from the circuit? And you have your ignitor wire to the top of the coil? right.. and the ground wire tot he bottom of the coil? right?

Doesn't sound like that was your problem in the beginning. Did you try jumping around the switch? Did you check to make sure you had good fuel flow?

Not a fuel problem or a switch problem, checked out okay. Brother who is a Deere Mechanic said probably condensor went bad, said can be a common problem with aftermarket parts. Thought, what the hay, try electronic ign. Anybody have experience with this?

Just put one in, worked great. did you hook it up like the instructions said. the wire from the top of the coil to a ground and the wire from the electronic pickup to your switch? Did you try and prime it and see if it will start. you could also have a bad coil. did you take out a plug and see if you have fire at the plug? Along the fuel side of the equation, you might check it anyway, the petcock could be glogged up.

I am guessing that it wasn't your points at all causing the problem. My advise is send that electronic gizmo back and get a lifetime supply of points with the money you spent.
