I am thinking about purchasing a tractor from a friend of a friend but the people selling dont know much more than I do about the tractor. They think it is an 8n when it is obvious that it is not. Please help me in trying to figure out a year for what I think is a 2n tractor. I believe it is a hybrid. The sn on the engine is all but gone. I found one character it was a 6. I believe the motor is an 8n motor. I found the 8n cast at the bottom of the block on the left side. The tractor has 2n4015 a2 stamped on the left axle housing and 4014 on the right side.I would guess that A2 would be for jan 1942 but the example I have seen in the forum showed the month day and year being represented on the axle cast not just month and year. Some of the things I noticed when walking around the tractor that memory serves as being indicative of the year model is 3 speed tranny (rules out 8n) 6 lugs (rules out 8n) start button ontop of tranny. The front of the footboards are hanging down from pegs. The hood has showing bolt heads on each side of the front of the tractor. The grill has vertical bars with a hole for the hand crank. The badges are missing but there seems to be a space where they should be. A big circle for the FORD badge and what looks like small place below it for the ford-ferguson badge but somebody mentioned in a post that there would be a 2n stamp visible around there. I didnt see anything. I am not sure about the type radius rods. It did have headlights but not sure if they were sealed beam or not. It didnt have the air breather pipe sticking up through the hood and the gas tank door was hinged. I guess it is more of a curiousity thing for me to figure out the year at this point. They priced it to me for $600 bucks. The hood is rough somebody got happy with a welder and ran a bead down a part of it but the fenders seem to be in good shape albeit painted ford blue. One tire is new and three are dry rotted but holding air. One of the guages is missing. The ammeter is still there so I am guessing the other was oil pressure. My dad and I picked up an 8n a few years ago with a sickle mower that I use a few times a year to cut his fields with and I thought this might make a good addition to the stable so that the sickle mower can stay on the 8n and I could use this one for bladeing or brush hogging or towing a little trailer around with. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

thank you,
roger

I agree.. if it runs and has positive oil pressure.. 600 bucks is good.

I think those numbers you see on the axle trumpets are part numbers although they do seem to indicate the tractor is a 2N. You are correct in assuming it is not an 8N based on the three speed tranny and 6 lug rear hubs. You could well have an 8N engine in it, lots of engines have been swapped in & out on these tractors. You might also look for other casting numbers with 4 digits such as A057 (January 5, 1947), if you find any numbers like that report what part they are on and the guys here will help you determine approximate date of manufacture.
