I bought new rotor for '50 8N, it wouldn't fit dist. shaft. It starts on, but won't seat. Removed rotor clip spring from shaft, it seems ok. Thought this rotor was a fluke, so bought another one. Same thing, wont seat down on the shaft. Old rotor fits loose. Any ideas? Thanks RMAC

I have side mount, the correct rotors, and neither roter fits the shaft, with or without the spring

Not insulting you, because have done this as well. Make sure the little clip you removed is installed with the flat tab facing UP and the part that wraps around the shaft is DOWN. It won't allow the rotors to fit if it is upside down.

Good luck,
Dan

The clip makes the rotor fit snuggly upon the distributor shaft. It will run without it but it should be installed.

my FO-4 shows "Spring 8N12213" and "Ring 97468S". They did not come with the TSC tuneup kit (condenser, rotor, points) I got.
My rotor seems to be on pretty good, but I will hunt down these other pieces at the local CNH.

Since you state that you removed the clip that goes under the rotor you must have a side mounted distributor and not a front mounted distributor. Most 1950 model 8Ns have the front mounted distributor.

May be buying the rotor for the wrong year tractor?????
Try 51/52
