I bought a 1941 9N and it didn"t have a tool box. Where is the original location of the tool box on this tractor?

Sean,

As far as the dialog box goes it depends on the application (program) he used to create the picture. For example if you paste a photo into PowerPoint you can go to Insert-->Text Box. and create text into a picture. In other applications such as Dell Image Expert(which I use) you go to Image--> Add Text. And it lets you design various text boxes. Some applications allow for simple text boxes while others allow for more elaborate ones.

I just got two questions for ya. What is that thing below the toolbox that looks like a shifter?
AND....how does one go about putting that cute little dialog box in the photo with accompanying arrow?

By the by, my hay is all cut and baled and (PTL) sold and I am back from vacation. Your nice original 2N seat is in the middle of a ree-stor
and I will have pics in a week or two depending on what comes up. Found out why the center disk was raised up and it is not a problem but I will cover it in detail later.

That shifter is for a sherman auxillary transmission. That is not a picture of my tractor, it is of Tyler Neff's tractor and I got those pictures from his site. I don't know how he did those nice dialogue boxes, but he sure did a good job, didn't he? His site is also where I got the wiring diagram from, but he got banned from this site and I don't know if i can even publish his web address without this message being blocked. He's a nice guy and did a good job with his tractor, too.

Tyler had a lot of computer talent, but could be a real big jerk. Along with a few others that had very little help for others on this board and alot of criticizm for the ones that do, decided to open their own board. Good riddence to 'em. This board has been very peaceful since. I don't remember them getting banned. I'm pretty sure they still visit here occasionally under alias' to stir up trouble.

Is a sherman auxillarey transmision common on all 9N tractors, or was it an option?

The shermans along with other auxillary transmissions (Everett, Hupp, and Howard) were all aftermarket add-on goodies. The shermans were available in 3 options (this was a stand-alone shifter that went between the clutch and the tranny): an Overdrive/standard which gave you 6 forward and 2 reverse, an Underdrive/standard, and an Overdrive/Underdrive/standard gearbox. Pretty handy to have but most of us rarely use them to the full range of gears but they're still desireable to have and fetch around $600 each or more on eBay.

Note that there is a difference between the 9N toolbox and the 2N toolbox. If your battery tray is cast aluminum, it will take the 9N toolbox. If it is formed sheet metal, you need to use the 2N toolbox.

I am not sure what my battery tray is. I know that is is made right to the tractor. The battery tray is definatly not bolted on in any way.

If it is sorta thick looking and made right into the steering column, then it should be cast aluminum (try the magnet test). There is a noticable difference between sheet metal and cast aluminum. I was just letting you know that there were two different (but very similar looking) toolboxes that were used and one person even had a 2N but mistakenly bought a 9N toolbox and found that it wouldn't work on his tractor (incorrect toolbox hit the sherman shifter lever). Just making you aware of some differences that you may not have known about before you went out looking and came back with the wrong one....
